A TCA9548A does not renumber identical I²C sensors. Its control byte connects selected downstream branches, and reset returns every channel to off.

An I²C scanner proves that something acknowledged at 0x76 or 0x77; it does not prove the device is a BME280. Read chip-ID register 0xD0 and expect 0x60.
